Looking to build a website for your business?

No matter what kind of business you run – be it an e-commerce store, an agency or a solopreneur business – your website will need to make your business look credible. Because if customers don’t trust your business, then you can bet they won’t be spending any money with you.

Not only that: your website also needs to be high-converting. After all, there’s no point pouring money into creating a gorgeous website that doesn’t produce results. A big part of increasing your conversion rate is being able to meet your customers’ needs, and that can be done with the help of dynamic website personalization.

And finally, your website has to help your business stand out from the crowd.

Fortunately, if you take care of the first two things mentioned here, you will be miles ahead of your competitors. Itching to know more? Then read on to learn what we mean…

3 must-haves in your digital marketing plan to stay ahead of your rivals

The competition online has grown only stiffer over the years. Especially with the ongoing pandemic, which has spurred on many businesses to start building their online presence.

So if you want to dominate in the online space, be sure that your digital marketing plan includes strategies for:

  1. Conveying a credible online image. As the online front of your business, your website has to inspire confidence in potential customers. In this regard, you’ll want your website to be well-designed and built on a premium and reliable platform to ensure high performance.
  2. Retaining the attention of website visitors. If visitors don’t like what they see on your website, or get bored, then they might leave and never return. So you’ll need your website to deliver relevant content, and a pleasant user experience, to keep your visitors engaged. For example, if you run a bakery and know that a customer is looking for wedding cakes, then you’ll want to try to show them as many content pages and offers related to wedding cakes as possible.
  3. Optimizing your website for conversions. Ultimately, you’re going to want to try and encourage your website visitors to convert – whether this is to sign up for your email list, buy your products or make a reservation. People love feeling special, so if you can provide a personalized customer experience on your website, then they’ll be more receptive to taking the actions you want them to take. This is where using a powerful content personalization plugin becomes vital, but more about that later!

What should you use to create an outstanding website that supports dynamic website personalization?

Well, it starts with picking the right website platform. And while there are many platforms for creating a website out there, WordPress.com is a strong contender worth checking out.

WordPress.com - the world’s most popular website builder

WordPress.com is a managed hosting solution that not only offers a platform for building your website on, but also hosts your website for you. It’s not to be confused with WordPress.org, which provides only the open-source software for websites, and where you’d need to host your website yourself.

With WordPress.com, you avoid the potential hassle of downloading software, paying for hosting and managing a web server. Instead, you can start building your website right away using an intuitive and easy-to-use interface.

WordPress.com offers a free plan, which comes with free themes, basic website stats, brute-force attack protection and basic SSL security, among other features. But to get the most out of the WordPress.com platform, we’d recommend upgrading to the WordPress.com Business plan.

The WordPress.com Business plan contains premium features that are particularly suited to businesses looking to maximize the conversion potential of their website, without sacrificing speed or performance. These include:

  1. The use of your own custom themes and plugins, so you can flexibly upload custom-developed themes or install a content personalization plugin for dynamic website personalization.
  2. Removal of the WordPress.com branding to increase the professionalism of your website, and keep the focus on promoting your business.
  3. Automated site backups for peace of mind. If needed, restoring your website to a previous version can also be done with just one click.
  4. Advanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tools that allow you to customize the meta descriptions of your posts and titles.
  5. Unlimited email support for the times where you need help with your website. Annual subscribers to the Business plan also enjoy 24/7 priority live chat support.

How to create a website that supports dynamic website personalization with the WordPress.com Business plan

1. Create a WordPress.com account

To get started, sign up for a free account on the WordPress.com website.

Sign up for WordPress.com

Next, fill out your website’s domain name. This will be the website address that people will use to visit your website, and is typically based on your business name.

Choosing a domain name for your WordPress.com website

You’ll then need to choose a plan for your WordPress.com website. You can start with the Business plan, or pick a different plan that suits your needs better.

Choosing a plan for your WordPress.com website

2. Choose a website theme

Now here comes the fun part: choosing a website theme for your website!

There are countless WordPress.com themes available, whether from the official WordPress.com theme repository or third-party websites. Pick a sleek theme that has the features and layouts that you’d like your website to have. Or as mentioned, you can also upload your own theme for use.

The Restaurant theme for WordPress.com websites

Importantly, for dynamic website personalization, your theme should be one that will enhance personalized content. For example, check that your theme is fully responsive, such that it seamlessly tailors its layouts to visitors’ screen sizes.

3. Install your WordPress.com plugins

If you’re on the WordPress.com Business plan, you’ll be able to install plugins to extend the functionality of your website. So don’t miss out on the chance to do so!

There are many types of plugins you can consider using, such as social sharing plugins, image gallery plugins and plugins for adding e-commerce features. But for dynamic website personalization, you will need a content personalization plugin such as Logic Hop.

To install Logic Hop, click on Plugins in the left sidebar of your WordPress.com dashboard. This will load your list of existing plugins (if any). Click on Add New at the top, then search for the Logic Hop plugin.

The one you’ll want to install is called “Logic Hop – Content Personalization for WordPress.”

Installing the Logic Hop plugin

(If you happen to see other Logic Hop plugins, these are add-ons for other WordPress plugins. You don’t need to worry about them for the time being.)

Activate your Logic Hop plugin, then click on the new Logic Hop option in the left sidebar, followed by Settings.

Key in your domain name and license key, then save your changes. And your WordPress.com website will be all set for dynamic website personalization!

Maximize conversions by implementing dynamic website personalization on your WordPress.com website

Offering a personalized customer journey helps boost your visitors’ experience on your website, and incentivizes them to stay on your website for longer to check out what you offer. And afterwards, your visitors may be more persuaded to convert – which is great news for your business.

That said, although content personalization is such a key digital marketing lever, many businesses choose not to cater for dynamic website personalization – despite knowing the potential benefits of doing so. According to a B2B study by sales enablement platform Seismic and marketing research and advisory firm Demand Metric, this could be due to reasons such as the business:

  • Not knowing how they can implement dynamic website personalization on their website.
  • Finding it too difficult to do so.
  • Having tried it, but the dynamic website personalization not working as well as the business had hoped.

The study doesn’t seem to say what respondents used for their dynamic website personalization efforts. But we’re confident that they would’ve had a better content personalization experience with the Logic Hop plugin, because of its:

Ability to serve a highly personalized website experience

Logic Hop data profile demo

Logic Hop offers many different ways of building data profiles on users, so you can serve them the right messages that will catch their attention. For example, Logic Hop can build visitor profiles based on:

  • Geolocation, i.e. which country the visitor is from.
  • How they arrived on your website, e.g. as a direct visit, or from a Google or Facebook ad.
  • The pages that they visited on your website, e.g. if a visitor viewed your article on marketing, then they could be profiled as a Marketer.
  • Information stored in other platforms and tools, including ConvertKit, Drip, WooCommerce, and Google Analytics.
  • And dozens of other criteria!

Powerfully, Logic Hop also allows you to customize your website down to the smallest details, from not just your text but also your images, to even the widgets of your WordPress.com website. And it even works with page builders like Elementor, Divi, and Beaver Builder, giving you total flexibility over how you build your website.

Such flexible content personalization is invaluable for e-commerce stores, small businesses, large agencies…practically any business, actually!

Ease of use

What’s more, you may not even need to build your customizations from scratch in Logic Hop!

That’s because Logic Hop offers a wide range of Recipes, which are ready-made content personalization templates that you can add to your WordPress.com website in a few clicks.

For example, there are Recipes for:

  • Customizing your messages to new and returning visitors (whether they found you via an ad or otherwise).
  • Customizing messages shown to buyers on the WooCommerce thank you page after checkout.
  • Identifying visitors from GDPR countries.
Logic Hop REcipes

You can use these Recipes to get your dynamic website personalization up in minutes! And if you need more custom personalization, Logic Hop makes that a breeze, too. A full suite of tutorials and instructional videos will help you implement any personalization strategy in no time at all.

Great value for money

Logic Hop offers three paid plans at $199/year, $399/year and $999/year. All these plans come with unlimited content personalization – which means that you can customize your website to your heart’s content at one flat annual rate!

Logic Hop pricing

This is handy for budgeting purposes, as you’ll know exactly how much you will be paying for Logic Hop. Other content personalization plugins may not offer such pricing predictability, especially if they charge sliding scale fees based on your number of monthly website visits and leads.

Dynamic website personalization made easy with the WordPress.com Business plan and the Logic Hop content personalization plugin

In the past, just having a website was enough to give you an edge over your competitors. But with practically every business having a website nowadays, you’ll need to adopt new tricks for growing and retaining your customer base.

Content personalization is the way to go in this regard – people love getting VIP treatment and feeling like their needs are being met, and offering a personalized experience on your website can do exactly that. Yet, dynamic website personalization still isn’t a common practice, so this is your chance to get ahead.

If you’re looking to build a professional-looking website that offers dynamic website personalization, using the combination of the WordPress.com Business plan and the Logic Hop content personalization plugin may be a great solution.

These are both value-for-money options, and well worth the investment. We’ve covered Logic Hop’s pricing above, and you can view the pricing of the WordPress.com Business plan here.

Your headlines, calls-to-action, and copy is often one-size-fits-all. In practice, that means “one size doesn’t really fit anyone.”

Content personalization is built upon a simple concept: your website needs to speak directly to each visitor’s specific needs. To do that, we need to make our website change to match the needs of each type of visitor. That’s where Logic Hop comes in.

Businesses that have implemented content personalization have seen increases in conversion rates and engagement as high as 300%. That’s a big difference–one that any business can’t afford to pass up on.

Conditions: The Foundation of Personalization

Logic Hop is built around two principles. First, we identify our visitors based on things that we know about them. In Logic Hop, we call those things “Conditions.” Then, we update the content of our website to speak more directly to those visitors.

Creating Our First Condition

Logic Hop supports nearly 100 different conditions – ranging from geolocation (where your visitor is located) to your visitor’s behavior (what pages, categories, and tags they’ve viewed–and when), to URL parameters like UTM tags and more.

Just some of Logic Hop’s Personalization Conditions

Logic Hop even integrates with marketing platforms like Drip and ConvertKit, page builders like Divi, Elementor, and Beaver Builder, and Analytics platforms like Google Analytics to give you even more control over how you engage your visitors.

The conditions you use depend on your specific audience. In general, look for ways to identify the problems different groups of visitors are aiming to solve, and create conditions that identify those groups of visitors together.

In this example, we’ll use visitor’s geolocation to tell them apart. This types of personalization works best businesses that operate in a variety of locations, where different customers might have different needs. For example, a handyman business in New York and New Jersey might mostly see floor restoration work in New Jersey and plumbing-related jobs in New York. Creating conditions that let us recognize each of these visitors independently will help us speak to each audience directly and specifically.

Let’s create our first condition. First, install Logic Hop. Then, on the Logic Hop Dashboard in your site’s admin area, click “Create a Condition” to create your first condition.

The Logic Hop Condition Builder provides powerful tools to create and combine conditions to identify users. Our condition will help us identify visitors in New Jersey.

Enter a title for your condition at the top of the page. Then, under Conditional Statements, select the Geolocation condition category. Select Location as our type, then State/Region Code to empower us to filter by state. Finally, enter NJ as our state.

You can combine multiple criteria into a single condition by hitting the plus button at the bottom of an existing condition. For now, we’ll just use our single location-based condition.

Our completed condition

After you’ve created the condition, click “Publish.”

Using Our Condition to Personalize Content

Now that we’ve created our condition, let’s use it.

When deciding where to use your personalization, it’s important to remember that less is often more. Instead of adding personalization to every page of your website, focus on adding it to high-traffic and high-intent pages: for example, landing pages and content that ranks well in search engines, and on your home page.

The content that you personalize on each page will depend on your content and your audience. We typically focus on calls-to-action, and on copy that aims to specifically speak to our visitors’ problems and the solutions we can offer. Boilerplate, like information about our company, is usually left unpersonalized. Over time, you can monitor the conversion rates of your personalization for different audiences using Logic Hop Goals and Logic Hop’s Google Analytics integration to optimize your personalizations.

Logic Hop works with every major WordPress page builder, including Divi, Elementor, and Beaver Builder. For this example, we’ll use WordPress’ default editor, Gutenberg, and a very simple landing page. Let’s show a different heading on the page depending on whether the visitor matches our condition (they live in New Jersey).

Create a new page in WordPress. Then, add a Logic Hop Condition Block.

Adding a Condition Block

In the right-hand sidebar, select the Condition we created.

Selecting Our Condition

Then, inside of the condition block, add the content that you’d like to display to visitors who match this condition. For our example, we’ll add a simple heading that resonates well with the needs of our New Jersey customers. Condition blocks can contain any other block in WordPress–and can contain as many blocks as you’d like–enabling you to personalize rich sections of content.

This block will only appear for visitors who match our condition. We want to make sure that the page makes sense for other visitors, too, so let’s add a block that appears when the condition isn’t matched. Add a new Logic Hop Condition block. In the right-hand sidebar, select our same condition. This time, under the condition, select display when not met.

Finally, add your content to that block, too. Our editor helpfully annotates each Logic Hop Condition block to help us understand when content will be shown to each visitor.

Finally, click “Publish.” You’ve created your first piece of personalized content!

It’s very common for developers to work locally when developing WordPress projects. It’s also common that when testing local projects your IP address reflects that of your local computer.

Logic Hop uses visitors’ IP addresses in a variety of ways and it can be important to test with a valid or specific IP address – Especially when working with geolocation.

Override Your IP Address

To override the IP address Logic Hop uses you’ll need to implement the logichop_get_client_ip filter as such:

Set a Specific IP Address

function my_override_ip ( $client_IP ) {

  return '72.85.30.42';
}
add_filter( 'logichop_get_client_ip', 'my_override_ip' );

Just swap out 72.85.30.42 with the valid IP address of your choice.

Note: The logichop_get_client_ip filter only accepts valid IP addresses.

Set to the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR IP Address

function my_override_ip ( $client_IP ) {

  if ( array_key_exists( 'HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR', $_SERVER ) ) {
    $ip = explode( ',', $_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'] );
    $client_IP = $ip[0];
  }

  return $client_IP;
}
add_filter( 'logichop_get_client_ip', 'my_override_ip' );

Using the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR method will allow you to use a browser extension to specify a specific IP address before visiting your local development environment.

Note: Logic Hop only sets your IP address when starting a new session, such as visiting your site in a new incognito window.

Logic Hop helps you personalize your WordPress site to make sure the messages you display more closely match each individual person visiting your website.

A WP language translation plugin can take that approach one step further and help you display those personalized messages in visitors’ preferred languages. So now you’re able to not just personalize the message that you display, but also personalize the language that you use for that personalized message.

Beyond adding a whole other level of personalization to your WordPress site, there are also some other big benefits to creating a multilingual WordPress website. And with the right WP language translation plugin, it’s really not that difficult to translate your entire WordPress site.

In this post, you’ll learn more about what the benefits of going multilingual are, as well as how to translate your WordPress site and any personalized content that you’ve created with Logic Hop.

The Two Big Benefits to a WP Language Translation Plugin

Before we get to the tutorial, let’s dig into the two big benefits to using a WP language translation plugin to translate your WordPress site into different languages. Those benefits are…

  • Improved user experience
  • Improved search engine optimization and marketing

1. Create a Better, More Personalized User Experience

The basic premise of Logic Hop is that you can use personalization to improve your website’s user experience and boost your conversion rates.

Well, the same general idea applies to using a WP language translation plugin to offer your WordPress site in different languages.

As you’d expect, most people prefer to visit a website that’s available in their own language. According to a Gallup survey commissioned by the EU, 90% of respondents prefer to visit a website in their native language when available and ~45% just flat out won’t visit a website in a language other than their own. These trends hold true for eCommerce, where that same Gallup survey also found that 42% of respondents never buy products from websites in different languages.

So by combining Logic Hop with a WP language translation plugin, you’re able to offer more relevant content in the language that your visitors want to use.

More importantly, creating personalized language experiences isn’t just for global websites — it’s quite possible to have a multilingual audience even within a small geographic area. For example, in California alone, the US Census Bureau estimates that 44.6% of people age 5+ speak a language other than English when at home, and that number is 21.6% for the USA as a whole.

2. Reach More Visitors in Google With Multilingual SEO

Beyond helping you further personalize your website, a WP language translation plugin can also help you reach more visitors to deliver your personalized content to by helping you implement multilingual SEO.

If you have an SEO strategy in place for your website, you’re probably already targeting keywords in your site’s default language.

But here’s the thing:

There are also tons of people searching for those exact same keywords…just in a different language.

For example, let’s say you have a vacuum cleaner review website. While you might already be reaching people searching for “best vacuum cleaner” in English, you’re missing out on a whole bunch of people searching for the same phrase — “mejor aspiradora” — in Spanish.

To be able to benefit from multilingual SEO, make sure you use one of the WordPress translation plugins that create an indexable, SEO-friendly version of your site for each language. Typically, you’ll want to use either a subfolder or subdomain for each language. For example, yoursite.com/fr/content or fr.yoursite.com/content.

Once you land a new visitor via multilingual SEO, Logic Hop can start working its magic to build a profile and serve that visitor personalized content.

Weglot Helps You Create Personalized Language Experiences With Logic Hop

While there are a lot of WordPress multilingual plugins out there, we’re going to use the Weglot WP language translation plugin for this tutorial because it fully integrates with Logic Hop right out of the box. That is, you won’t have to use any tweaks or workarounds to translate your personalized content.

The Weglot WP language translation plugin also works with 100% of other WordPress themes and plugins right away, so it just generally makes it simple to comprehensively translate your WordPress site.

Weglot helps you quickly get up and running by using machine translation to automatically translate your site right away, but you can always go back and manually refine your translations (which we’ll demonstrate).

How to Translate Your WordPress Website and Logic Hop With Weglot

Now that you know the “why”, let’s dig into how to personalize your website’s content and language using the Weglot WP language translation plugin and Logic Hop.

To demo the full multilingual functionality, we’ll start off by creating some personalized content with Logic Hop in the form of a notification bar. Then, you’ll learn how to translate that personalized content, as well as the rest of your site’s content, using the aforementioned Weglot plugin.

While we’ll be focusing on content from Logic Hop, the translation method that you learn below will work for 100% of your site’s content. So whether you have a WooCommerce eCommerce store, content you’ve built with a page builder WordPress plugin, a simple blog, a site with custom post types, or anything else — you’ll be able to create a multilingual site by following this tutorial.

Here’s your step-by-step WP language translation guide…

1. Create Personalized Content With Logic Hop

To demo how Weglot works with Logic Hop, we’ll create a Logic Bar notification bar that triggers when a UTM parameter is passed in the URL.

If you have Logic Hop installed and activated, you can set this up by heading to Logic Hop > Logic Bars > Add New.

Then, you can add your content and styling and publish your bar when you’re finished:

Translated Logic Bar

You can see that the text is “Weglot and Logic Hop work together perfectly”. In the next steps, you’ll be able to translate this text, along with all of the other content from your WordPress site.

2. Activate and Configure Weglot Plugin

To get started with your translations, you’ll need to register for a Weglot account and install and activate the Weglot WordPress plugin from WordPress.org.

Once you’ve done those two things, go to the new Weglot settings page in your backend WordPress dashboard and:

  • Add your API key to the plugin’s settings. You can find your Weglot API key in your dashboard at the Weglot website.
  • Choose your site’s original language. This is the default language that your content currently exists in. For example, English.
  • Choose your destination language(s). This is the new language (or languages) into which you want to translate your website’s content. For example, French.

3. Configure Your Front-End Language Switcher (Or Set Up Automatic Redirects)

By default, Weglot adds a front-end language switcher to the bottom-right corner of your website that lets visitors choose between all of the available languages:

Front-end language switcher

If you’d like, you can customize the looks and location of this language switcher.

  • First, you can place it in different locations:
  • Dropdown menu item (Appearance > Menus)
  • Widget (Appearance > Widgets)
  • Shortcode (Any text editor on your site)
  • Source code (By adding a
    to the source code of any HTML page)

You’ll also get new settings in the Weglot area of your WordPress admin dashboard that let you control the language switcher’s style. For example, you can turn country flags on or off and choose between using the full language name or just the two-letter country code:

Weglot country flags

In addition to letting visitors manually use the language switcher, Weglot can also help you automatically redirect visitors to their local language based on their browser settings.

This feature works especially well when you pair it with Logic Hop’s ability to serve personalized content based on geolocation. By pairing the two, you can automatically serve content that’s relevant to your visitor’s location and in your visitor’s local language. Talk about personalization, right?

4. Manually Refine Translations (If Needed)

When Weglot initially translates your site, Weglot uses automatic machine translation (kind of like Google Translate).

However, you have the ability to manually refine those automatic translations as needed, without the need to work directly with language files.

To do this, you can use the Weglot cloud dashboard, which gives you two translation management interfaces.

Both interfaces let you manage 100% of your site’s translations and both automatically sync any changes that you make to your live WordPress site. The only difference is in the actual interface that you use to work with translations.

Translations List

First, you can use the backend translations list interface to manage your translations a lot like you would work with a PO file. You’ll see the original language version on the left and the translated version on the right:

Translation editor pop-up

You can use the search and filter options to find specific strings and click and type to edit them. If you’d like, you can also outsource your translations to professional translation services if you’d prefer to have someone else handle your human translations.

If you want to translate Logic Hop content, you’ll want to use this translation list interface most of the time as it makes it easier to find your personalized content.

Visual Editor

Second, you can use the visual editor to manage your translations on a live preview of your website.

To edit your translations, all you do is hover over the string that you want to translate and click the green pencil icon:

That will open a popup where you can edit your translation:

Edit your translation

Logic Hop lets you build powerful conditions by matching values to user data. When it comes to geolocation, we heard from a number of users that it would be much easier to match against lists of locations instead of creating multiple conditions.

You asked. We listened!

Creating geolocation conditions just got a whole lot easier with lists!

Want to create a condition that only applies to residents of three states? Easy! What about people who live in specific ZIP codes? No problem! What about people in specific countries? Done!

In the geolocation condition builder you’ll now see three options:

  • Is
  • Is Not
  • Is in List

To use a geolocation list, simply select Is in List and enter a comma-separated list of country codes, states, ZIP codes and cities.

To create a condition for visitors located in California, Florida, New York and Massachusetts you’d do the following:

Content personalization is so much more than showing the right message. It’s about customizing your website to give each visitor a unique experience that fits their individual needs.

The foundation of your website’s layout and visual appearance are HTML and CSS. Cascading Style Sheets, also know as CSS, is a powerful language that can use classes and properties to specify the visual styling of your website.

Enter Logic Hop Conditional CSS!

Logic Hop features Conditional CSS which adds CSS classes to the <body> class attribute when specific conditions are met. WHAT? To put it simply, your website appearance can change based on conditions using CSS.

Imagine a link from a newsletter or display ad with a utm_campaign query string value set to summer. Your corresponding Logic Hop condition detects the value and adds to your page.

Now the fun begins!

Using CSS, you can customize any element on your page by using the Conditional CSS Body class in your theme style.css file or even inline in your page.

Want to change the font color for every <h1> header on your page?

.lh-summer-campaign h1 {
color: orange;
}

How about changing the background image for your entire page”

body.lh-summer-campaign {
background-image: url('summer_beach.jpg');
}

Check out our video tutorial above to see how it’s done and be sure to have a look at our Conditional CSS documentation to get the full details.
